I decided Friday night that i needed a cell phone once again (ok, i didn't REALLY need it. I thought it would make me look important enough in case someone wanted to walk up to me and offer me a job) so after work that night I called for a taxi (was planning on going out to the club after i had bought the phone) and went over to Wally-World, where i had been eyeing a certain phone over there. I got to the electronics area and told the cashier i wished to purchase one. Well, she told me that the person normally in charge of the phones had left for the day and the only phone i could get was the prepaid ones (which was PRECISELY what i wanted in the first place) and i told her that was what i wanted. We searched all around the register area and the one i wanted was not there, only locked up in the case. Another employee volanteered to go get the key to the case (which was waaaaay up front) and left for his mission.
6 minutes pass until he returns.
(NOTE: During this whole time i was doing this, the cab driver was outside waiting for me. I still planned on going out afterwards.)
He opens up the case, hands me the phone i wanted, and tells me to pay for it at the register in electronics. Well, there was someone else being helped there but i went ahead and waited in line.
Now, the person in front of me was buying a game console, a couple games, and about 3 or 4 DVD's. After the cashier totaled it out, it turned out the customer didn't have enough money so she had the cashier remove 2 DVD's from the total.
Hint: when the cashier voids out something from the purchase it requires one of the red vested managers to complete the void process.
No problem. The cashier gets on the intercom and asks for one to come back to the electronics area. Then calls again. And again. And again.
10 minutes pass. Still no red vested manager. Also, 5 more customers show up to have their stuff rung up. We are all standing around, the anger and frustration building. FINALLY, a red vested manager, who had JUST CLOCKED IN, came over and took care of the void. The customer took her ticket and left.
Next, it was my turn. I put down the cell phone, and the prepaid card i was also buying. The cashier needed to activate that card in order for me to use it. The card would not activate. She went over to get another card. That one would not activate.
3 minutes more and frustration turning into irritation. Taxi is still waiting.
She went and grabbed a handful of cards and tried 3 more until one was able to activate. I paid for the phone and card, and walked (rather quickly i might add, so i could not get the chance to punch out the first red vested manager that walked in my way) outside and to the taxi. The whole ordeal left me to upset to go out so i told the driver to take me back to the hotel, a half mile away.
So, in short. The cab fare that eventually took me only one mile cost me 16 dollars in the end.
